ShantiSeva

MLK Day of Service - Please click to document your participation.

Today, more than ever, we all need to advance peace and harmony.  UtsavSeva, the signature program of Hindu American Seva Charities, supported by Hindu and Dharmic faith based and secular leaders, is promoting the understanding of ShantiSeva—or peace and harmony—across the
United States—through service activities.  We strongly believed in the power behind the Vedic statement — “Ahimsa Paramo Dharmah”— or nonviolence—as mankind’s foremost duty.

During January the Indian-American secular and faith based communities celebrate many festivals - Makara Sankranti, Pongal, Thaipusam, Lohri, Indian Republic Day  as well as MLK Day of Service. Our presentation highlights the importance of the festival and suggests related seva activities.

"The essence of the festivals calls for withdrawing from unethical and disturbing behavior and making a commitment to uphold universal values that promote harmony and mutual respect. It is thanking Mother Earth for all Her Gifts.": explained Anju Bhargava, Founder of Hindu American Seva Charities.

This month, in the spirit of ShantiSeva, HASC is partnering with HandOn Network as it introduces America's Sunday Supper, a new American tradition. Inspired by the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, America’s Sunday Supper invites people from diverse backgrounds to come together on Sunday, January 16, 2011 to share a meal and discuss issues that affect your community and the possible actions you can take, highlighting the power each one of us has to make a difference. Please click to document your participation.

We urge the community to serve. As a start we have suggested a few ideas for consideration. We request you to send your UtsavSeva activities details.
